Are valve jobs not a part of regular maintenance anymore? I have a 98' GMC pickup with a 5.7L and 200k miles. Now with my last truck, which went about 500,000 on one 4.1L engine, when I noticed a puff of blue smoke in cold starts, it meant my valve seals were leaking. Pull the heads, and have them rebuilt. Now with this truck, a puff of blue smoke, and the odd misfire on no. 6, and the shop won't pull the heads. They want me to buy a whole new engine. I have to call BS on that one. Chevrolet . Car paint job botched?

Car paint job botched? Sent my car to a body shop for repair. It is a certified repair shop for at least six insurance companies but not the one that paid for this job. I got it back and the rear bumper gash looked like it had been bondoed but required additional work, but they chose to paint over it. Also looked like they had painted over debris on the bumper. The hood had air bubbles and bumps. I had paid out of pocket to have the hood done. In replacing the hood, they had chipped the existing paint on one fender and the front grill. The passenger door, which they replaced had black painted trim that hadn't been touched and was largely showing bare metal. The door sill had a wad of either bondo or had been welded that wasn't sanded down. The paint, as a whole, had air bubbles throughout it. On the door, there were large paint bumps coming up. The bottom of the door appears to have been painted over rust. Upon returning it, they reluctantly agreed to repair it and give me a rental car. But, as I mentioned to the assistant manager when he said they'd fix it and buff it all out, that would remove a lot of the clear coat. His reply was that it's clear coated three times. Even if they fix it and make it look right, if they remove much of the clear coat, am I right that the paint job won't last as long? car insurance.

Chevrolet . How to Get Rid of Dog Odor in a Car

If you have a tendency to take your dog riding in your car, he or she may have left behind an odor as a reminder of their car ride. Wet dogs, especially, leave an odor that is overpowering and obnoxious. If you’ve ever been caught in the rain with a dog, chances are that your car reeks of a wet pet smell. There are many solutions to absorbing this odor and they won’t break the bank.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Air freshener
Baking soda
Charcoal
Bread
Carpet shampoo

Step by Step :
1
Spray the interior with an air freshener. This is just a quick fix and will merely mask the original dog odor. Once the flowery scent leaves, the odor returns. You need to eliminate the odor, not mask it.
2
Absorb the odor with baking soda. Place small bowls of baking soda on the car’s floorboards and let it set overnight. If the dog odor is strong you may have to repeat the baking soda treatment a few times.
3
Slide a tray of charcoal briquets under the seats. Crush the charcoal briquets up and put them in a small tray or dish. If you are sure that they won’t slide around and make a mess, you can leave them in your car. If not, use the same method as with the baking soda.
4
Place slices of bread on the car seats. Put the slices of bread on a paper towel to avoid crumbs in your car. Leave the bread overnight, and then toss it to the birds.
5
Shampoo the interior. If all else fails, this may be your only option. Use a good quality pet odor shampoo and clean the interior thoroughly. Open all of the windows and doors and let the car air out on a nice sunny day.
6
Put blankets on your seats when you take your pet with you. Remove the blankets after each ride and wash them. Keep old towels in your trunk, in case you get caught in the rain. Dry the pet off and put the wet towels in a plastic bag in your trunk.

Chevrolet . How to Eliminate Vomit Odor From a Car

There is nothing worse than the smell of vomit, especially when it is in an enclosed area such as a car. The smell seems to linger no matter how well you clean it. There are some things you can do to eliminate the odor. Follow the steps below so you can breathe a little better.
Difficulty:Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Bucket of hot soapy water
Sponge
Car vacuum cleaner
Baking soda
Febreze
Carpet freshener

Step by Step :
1
Using the sponge and bucket of hot soapy water, clean the area thoroughly. Pay close attention to the hard to reach areas where the vomit may have settled. Allow enough time for the area to dry before proceeding to the next step.
2
Sprinkle the area with a liberal amount of baking soda and allow it to sit for 24 hours. This will give the baking soda time to absorb the odor. Vacuum the area thoroughly, paying close attention to crevices.
3
Sprinkle the area with carpet freshener and let it sit for a couple of hours. Vacuum the area thoroughly, paying close attention to crevices.
4
Spray the area with Febreze or any other type of fabric neutralizer you may have.
Tips & Warnings
If the smell persists you may have to do these steps again or seek the help of professionals.

Figure 7-1: Governor A diesel engine. Fuel injection pump Here's a step-by-step view of what happens when you start up a diesel-powered vehicle. The details may vary from one car to another, but the action remains pretty much the same. (It might be fun to compare this description with the short overview of how conventional engines work in Chapter 4.) 1. When you first turn the key in the ignition, you're asked to wait until the engine builds up enough heat in the cylinders for satisfactory starting. (Most vehicles have a little light that says, "Wait," but a sultry computer voice may do the same job on some vehicles.) When you turn the key, the glow plugs kick in and begin to warm up the air in the cylinders. (See Figure 7-2.) Usually, you don't have to wait long — probably no more than half a minute in moderate weather. Developments in glow plugs have dramatically reduced starting time. 136 345 Car Insurance 1997 oldsmobile lss 309558

Part II: What Makes It Go?. Figure 7-2: Glow plugs warm up the air in the cylinders. 2. When everything is warm enough, a "Start" light goes on. When you see this light, you step on the accelerator and turn the ignition key to "Start." 3. Fuel pumps deliver the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. On its way, the fuel passes through a couple of fuel filters (see Figure 7-3) that clean it before it can get to — and clog up — the fuel injector nozzles (see Figure 7-4). Proper maintenance of these filters is especially important in diesels, because fuel contamination can clog up the tiny holes in the injector nozzles. 4.

Chevrolet . Why is idling speed increased on my 1996 2.2 vauhall arena van?

An increased idling speed can be caused by a large number of components of the engine. Have you recently given it maintenance? If... Yugo GV.
*
The fuel injection pump is truly the heart of the diesel engine. (See Figure 7-5.) It sends fuel to a series of mini-pumps called fuel transfer pumps, each of which is responsible for delivering fuel at a pressure of over 1,000 psi (pounds per square inch) to one of the fuel injector nozzles. (See Figure 7-6.) Figure 7-3: A diesel fuel filter. . Plunger Spring chamber Plunger sprini Precleaner 138 Part II: What Makes It Go?. The fuel injection pump's brain is the governor (refer to Figure 7-5), which has a very important job: It controls the exact amount of fuel that's sent from each mini-pump to the nozzles and makes sure that the engine doesn't go so fast that it damages itself with excessive heat and pressure. Some governors are built right into the injection pump; others work off the crankshaft or the pump's timing gear; still others measure the speed of the air coming into the engine. All governors are affected by the pressure of your foot on the accelerator, the temperature in the cylinders, the altitude, the speed of the vehicle, and the load that the vehicle is carrying. At this point, the action moves to the cylinders, where the fuel, air, and "fire" meet. While the preceding steps have been taking place to get the fuel where it needs to go, another process has been running simultaneously to get the air where it needs to be for the final, fiery "power play." 5.

Chevrolet . How much does it cost to replace -on BMW 320d es 2.0?

*
On conventional diesels, the air comes in through an air cleaner that's quite similar to those in ordinary vehicles. However, turbochargers have been developed that ram greater volumes of air into the cylinders and may provide greater power and fuel economy under optimum conditions. A turbocharger can increase the power on a diesel vehicle by 50 percent while lowering its fuel consumption by 20 to 25 percent! (See "Turbocharging" in Chapter 6 for details.) 6. As you've read, turning the key started the glow plugs warming up the air in the cylinders. On many engines, the glow plugs are located right in the combustion chambers of the cylinders. On others, they have been placed in little precombustion chambers (refer to Figure 7-2), which the glow plugs can heat more quickly and easily. 7. From here, combustion spreads from the smaller amount of fuel that's placed under pressure in the precombustion chamber to the fuel and air in the combustion chamber itself. Now take a closer look at each step of the power cycle that converts all this
